Internet Marketing -- 7 Steps to Make a Kickin’ Speaker Web Site

There are lots of ways to create a great web site, but I'm only going to concentrate on one method that I know that KICKS! I used to try to get people to do their entire web site from scratch because they could save the most money. After seeing the results of this I have totally changed my mind. Here's the method I use. The people that follow it usually have much less headaches and they stay motivated because things get done quickly.

Tom’s Kickin’ Steps:

Step 1. Search the web and find pages you like and generally try to get the feel of what is already out there in your industry. Bookmark and save these pages in your favorite places so you can get back to them easily.

Step 2. Get a plain old tablet of paper and start a little diagram. What will be on the home page? What buttons (navigation system) will it have to lead people around the site? What content will it have, etc., etc., etc.?

Step 3. Start collecting keywords that you think will be appropriate for your site. These are words that someone might type into a search engine or directory when they are trying to find the service you offer.

Step 4. Get a professional to make the basic look of your site and to handle all the technical details of getting the basic site up and running on the Internet. This will save you an ENORMOUS amount of frustration.

TOM’S RECOMMENDATION:

Without reservation, I highly recommend Saeler Enterprises in Tucson, Arizona http://www.saeler.com Talk to Jason Saeler at (520) 795-2736. Jason is familiar with the way I do things and makes a special effort to please the clients I send him.

Step 4B. Your web site will be created in such a way that you can update it yourself if you choose to. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS! Your ability to add page after page after page of content to your site will have a direct correlation to your ability to do much of your own work (like announcing a speaking event to your site in the middle of the night) and your wallet. Of course, if you are independently wealthy, all these things can be hired out. (For this to work smoothly your site should be created in the program you plan on using to update it. You needn't worry though if you already have a web site that needs redone. The major web authoring programs can import it and convert it if necessary.)

Step 5. Purchase and install a web authoring program on your home/office computer.

Step 6. Learn the basics of the web authoring program. This can be done concurrently with the development of the site that your chosen professional designer is doing. I highly suggest some telephone coaching both to help with the basic install and to teach you the simple things you need to know how to do to update your site. During this step you'll learn how to access your site's administration area, change email settings, handle pass codes and learn some miscellaneous tidbits about your hosting service and what else they have to offer.

After you have the basic site up and running, you only need to know how to do 4 simple things to start. A. Add a new page. B. Add text. C. Make a hyperlink. D. Add a graphic. Those four things done over and over again can really make your site grow into a force to be reckoned with on the web. (You can learn this in about 10 minutes with an in person coach or 30-40 minutes on the phone.)

Step 7. As you get more comfortable working on your web site you should learn a little bit more about using tables to keep things firmly in place. You'll need to learn a teeny, tiny amount of HTML (the behind the scenes coding language of the web) to help you make little improvements here and there to your web site.
