Internet Marketing -- Programs to Help Build Your Web site You can purchase software programs, referred to as “Web Site Authoring Programs,” which are designed so you don't have to write all the HTML code from scratch. In fact, you don't have to write any at all if you don't want to, although learning a little as you go along is a good idea. You might want to get a web designer to start off your site with the least amount of hassle. Then you’ll need to pick a web authoring program so you can make updates yourself. The program you pick should be well supported around the world and match the one your web designer is using. Please don't try to be cheap on this unless you are really broke. Get a highly supported professional program and you'll always be able to find someone who knows how to use it if you get in a jam. Four Web Site
Authoring Programs: Microsoft Front Page 2000 (this is what I use) http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/ You can pick up this product as a stand alone program for way less than $150.00 and it may be included already if you use Microsoft Office 2000 Premium. Note: Don't confuse this with "Front Page Express" which is included with later versions of Windows. Express is a lite version of Front Page that doesn't have all the templates and Wizards of the full version. Macromedia Dreamweaver http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/ Dreamweaver is a much more complicated program that excels in really advanced web creation techniques that are considered to be counterproductive if you want to keep it simple! It's quite a bit more expensive too. It is available though for both the Mac and PC and of course it will still do the basics outlined above. Adobe GoLive http://www.adobe.com/store/products/golive.html I guess this a replacement product for Adobe Page Mill. Available for both Mac and PC. NetObjects Fusion http://www.netobjects.com/products/html/nf5.html Again overkill and not as well known. This program used to be for both Mac and PC and they just gave notice it has been discontinued for the Mac. |
