Internet Marketing -- SPAM, Not Just a Food Anymore!

Most people have heard of Spam email. That's where you send bulk email to someone whom has not agreed to receive it. Spamming a search engine is a little different, but the consequences can be severe. You need to avoid Spamming the search engines at all costs.

13 Techniques That Will Make the Search Engines MAD!

1.         Don't make your text the same color as the background of the site in an effort to hide extra keywords. Just making it the same color can get your banned from search engines, even if you aren't stuffing in extra keywords.

2.         Don't use text that is just a slightly different color than the background. They'll still nab you.

3.         Don't use a keyword or keyword phrase over and over again in your keyword META Tag.

4.         Don't use a keyword over and over again anywhere on your page or in any HTML areas.

5.         Don't stuff a bunch of keywords way down at the bottom of the page where you think no one will click on it. The spider police will get you.

6.         Don't create a highly optimized page to get a high ranking and then switch the page on your server to another one.

7.         Don't use automatic redirects. If you have a legitimate reason, use Java script and make the redirect time as long as possible (none of this is recommended if you want to get high rankings)

8.         Don't submit the same page over and over again or try to trick the engines by simply renaming the same page.

9.         Don't submit non-sensible sentences that are stuffed with keywords.

10.       Don't submit more pages per day than a particular search engine allows.

11.       Don't put more than 8% keywords on any one page.

12.       Don't put a tremendous number of transparent GIF files on the page with the same alt text. When using transparent GIFs don't put the height and width tags in.

13.              Don't put multiple title tags in your HTML code. Used to work, but alas no more.

TOM’S TIP: Don't let anyone talk you into trying to cheat the search engines. It could get your web site banned. Don't be impressed when someone tells you how many "hits" they got.
