Internet Marketing -- Top Ten Questions to Ask BEFORE
You Pick a Web Host
Here are ten questions I urge you to ask before you
settle on a web host.
1.
If you are using Microsoft
Front Page to create your website, do they have Front Page extensions
installed (these are things necessary to make all the different parts of Front
Page work).
2.
Do they give you autoresponders? These are the automatic emails you get when
you request information from a website. They save time and money and let you
automate your promotions and keep them selling for you.
3.
Can they handle multimedia and CGI scripts? You may want to have things like
Real Audio and Real Video or you might want to add custom functions like a
“recommend me” form. If they can't handle it, you can't have it on your
website.
4.
How about backups? Do they have a reliable system? How often do they back
up? How long will it take to restore your site from backup if something goes
wrong?
5.
What statistics packages do they make available to you? A bare bones
package, none at all or are really advanced packages available? Is there a
monthly cost for the advanced packages?
6.
What kind of connection do they have to the Internet? Do they have superfast
T-1 or T-3 lines or something slower?
7.
Are there limits on file transfers? Will you have to pay more after you sign
up and your site starts getting busier?
8.
Do they have shopping cart software? Does it cost extra for an e-commerce
package? If so, how much and what do you get? Do they have a shopping cart that
also has an affiliate/associate program?
9.
Do they have secure server capability for your e-commerce efforts?
10.
How much space to you get? How much does extra space cost as your website
grows? My site has grown to nearly 100 Mega Bytes in 2.5 years.
